The book examines the prestigious private house commissioned by the Parisian art dealer and collector Louis Carré. The Maison Louis Carré was designed by Alvar Aalto in the village of Bazoches-sur-Gyuonne between 1956 and 1963 and it has been described as the most carefully executed and detailed of the private houses designed by Alvar Aalto since Villa Mairea.

Alvar Aalto Architect Vol. 20 also presents other works produced by Aalto s office between 1954 and 1957. The book has been lavishly illustrated with architectural sketches and drawings, historical archive photographs and new architectural colour photos. The book is the 20th volume in Alvar Aalto Architect monograph series.
