However important the “inner values” of a building may be, it is ultimately the facades that create the first impression and even shape the internal spaces. Projects of the current issue of DETAIL include an office complex in Zurich, the closed-cavity facade curtains of which are contrasted with the stringency of the glazed outer skin; an old brick building in London visible through the filigree elegance of a new iron shop front; and a Munich house where areas of rough rendering and timber cladding interrelate inside and outside.
